quick question..

How much units we can transfer to UC schools? 70 units? 80units?

I believe you can go as high as 90 before things begin to get complicated. At UCLA at least they stop counting once you hit 90 units.

For junior transfers you get up to 70, or 72 (GRADUATION credit)--the rest are good for subject credit. I think I am referring to CCC transfers.

Well, it all depends! For most UC, you need to be a junior transfer with a min of 60 UC transferable credits, and many UC campuses don't accept applicants with more than 90 credits. For more info, please go to:

Nooooooooo! I thought that it doesn't matter how many units you accumulate, as long as they are all from community college. I was planning to get to about 100 units by the end of my two years at my community college. I think I need to re-think that plan....=(

Are the units counted up by how many you get from your community college or from the number of units that you get from equivalent courses that the UCs require? For example, I am taking a 5 unit Calculus course at my community college, which is only worth 4 units at UCLA (according to assist.org). Which set of numbers do I follow??? This was never explained to me by any counselor or anyone else, for some reason.

Xcron-you misinterpreted. There is NO LIMIT on credits if they are ALL from CA community colleges (CCCs). You could transfer (as a junior transfer) with 120 credits. The point is that when it actually comes down to it, you will only be allowed 70 graduation credits (this ensures you complete about half of your graduation credit at the UC) of your 120. The rest will count as subject credit though.

Coolant missed the question as well. The question was how many units can actually transfer.

Xcron, since only 4 units are transferable, only 4 units will be counted.

I just have a small question .. what does it mean when gabew42 says "the rest will be count as subject credit?" .. are there any disadvantages or advantages for exceeding 70 units transferable ?

Disadvantage--you spent a lot of money on credits that won't count as graduation credit.

Advantages--you learn more! And it might mean the ability to change majors and/or raise your GPA.

Subject credit means that they will count towards completing IGETC for instance and also as prereqs for classes at the UC and other subject requirements.

Anyone know of anyone who successfully transferred to Stanford as a sophomore? Any tips?

dude--that belongs in a new thread--not this one.

OK how do I start a new thread? I am new.
