I know that in the past, one could only apply to either Wharton or the College of Arts and Sciences, not both. However, I seem to have a vague memory of reading that this might have changed for the upcoming application year...although that could be completely made up in my head. For the class of 2012, can you apply to just one school or both?

(I'm looking to be a math major, which would be in the College...but I may want to steer that towards business, I'm not sure yet)

You can apply to both cas and wharton under the dual degree program. You apply to both and are required to fulfill degree requirements of both schools.

If you're undecided (but only want to pursue 1 degree - either math or business, but not both) you're in a bit of a hard place. Penn encourages you to choose one or the other, saying you're undecided business, undecided arts and sciences, or implicitly undecided engineering. The first two years' classes are quite a bit different between those two majors, and you do need to pick one of the schools up front. Wharton is more competitive; know also that you can transfer between the two later on but it can be a challenge.

There also exist dual/joint degree programs, but it doesn't sound like these are what you're looking for. Penn does force you to apply to only one school; contrast this with somewhere like CMU which lets you apply to all the schools and then choose one to enroll.
