Can you bargain for a lower tuition after you get in ED?

I’m applying ED to vandy and i was wondering if it was possible to bargain price. I also got nominated for the Danforth Scholars Program at Wash U that pays half tuition if i get accepted. I was wondering, if i get into vandy, I can show them other scholarships or full rides and they might match it. My counselor told
me this is possible but i wasn’t sure. Also, if I require a certain financial aid amount that vandy cant provide after (if) i get in ED, would that be grounds to back out?
These might be obvious questions but i appreciate anyone’s help
thanks

When you get accepted ED you are required to pull your other applications. Danforth decisions are made in March so you are certainly not going to be able to use a nomination as leverage. Vanderbilt’s need based aid will be determined by your family’s financial situation. If you are hoping for merit aid you will need to apply along with everyone else. Vanderbilt has generous aid and doesn’t need to bargain. Run their Net Price Calculator and make an informed financial decision–if you require a certain amount of aid does the calculator indicate you will receive something in that ball park? If not, do not apply ED.

If you want to negotiate, don’t apply ED. Apply RD to several schools and evaluate your options in the spring.

ED isn’t for everyone, especially those who need a good financial aid package. You CAN get out of an ED acceptance if the financial package isn’t good enough, but you won’t have anything to compare it to when you have to make the decision to accept in December.

If you have checked the NPC and found it to be not really affordable, don’t even try ED. By applying ED, you don’t have the opportunity to compare FA packages. Note that you cannot negotiate with a conditional offer (e.g. if accepted) as you don’t have that in your hand.

For ED accepted students…colleges won’t listen about offers from other schools…because you have applied to THEIR school ED…which indicates you will attend if accepted.

You are certainly able to decline your offer of admission if the aid is not sufficient. But really, you aren’t even supposed to HAVE any other acceptances or offers from peer schools to Vandy.

If you can’t afford the cost the net price calculator is giving you…I would, strongly suggest you NOT apply ED.

ETA…getting nominated for the Danforth is not the same as receiving the actual award. Just FYI.
