My son has application mostly done, but … he thought he might hold it for RD because he is currently taking AP Physics C and AP Calc BC and Statistics and has As in all of them (grades will be finalized around 11/20). Last year he had B+ in Calc Honors (a very hard class at his school), so this shows his capabilities. Test scores are high and he is done testing.
He tried to switch the application to RD but doesn’t look like he can do that online.
Any advice or knowledge of whether you can switch to RD (or should he just get the application finished and submitted, and send grades in late-November - would they see those A’s in time?).
I’ll take your word on that; I though it could be changed in MyMIT before submission, but I could be wrong.
If he wants to switch to RD, he can. Simply send an email saying “I would like to have my application considered for Regular Decision.” No long explanation is needed and nobody’s feelings will be hurt. It happens very frequently.
If he applies EA, the transcript needs to be sent in at that time. The GC will send an update after the grades are finalized. Personally,if he’s happy with the application and wants to apply EA, he should. I doubt the the first term grades will be what sends the applications from the reject pile to the accept pile, or vice versa.
You might check with his school’s guidance office. They will probably send a 9th to 11th grade transcript with a update after 11/20/18 after this term is closed with this year’s grades.
I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, last year most of the applicants that did not get accepted got deferred. If this is correct, there’s no harm in applying EA.
My child is applying ED to a highly selective school. Her GPA is 4.0 UW, and 4.5W. Her progress report just came out, and her GPA so far this year is 4.7 (5 APs and two regular classes this year). Per our college counselor’s advice, we asked her school counselor to send the PR since her official report card won’t be available until after decisions are released.
