Can you do a Double Degree in Biomedical Engineering and Accounting? What if the double degree is a BS/MS where you can complete both masters and bachelors? Then can you do a double minor with like language and music? Any institutions that do this??
Thanks
Are you asking if you can do a double BS AND MS?
Why would you even want to do this? Those two fields are very different, and generally the end goal of an accounting degree is to become a CPA
I would decide what is your major focus and start with that when picking a college list. Then, once you have a list, dig down into the requirements for each. It is really going to vary by school.
The hardest part is that engineering is usually a pretty lock-stepped program without a lot of free electives and sometimes fewer gen eds. For instance, at D’s school, the college of engineering only required 1 year (or equiv) of foreign language while Business School required 2. D was double major but within same college and so all the gen eds were the same. Her RA freshman year was a double major engineering and music performance which were in different colleges - he did it by basically taking massive overloads (21 hours) each semester. These are the questions to ask when you visit colleges.
So I think you’d have a tough time but not impossible. Other factors would include number of AP/IB credits a given school will let you use which can open up your schedule. In example above, if you exempted FL completely with AP then it wouldn’t impact you that you have different requirements.
Why do you want to do this anyway? Just another note, if this if for grad school reasons, most care about actual courses, not that you have a formal minor or major. For instance, if your goal is MBA program that requires accounting background, they won’t care if you have a major or minor as long as you have particular classes. If this is just because you interested in it, then taking 12 hours for own enlightenment may be enough instead of killing yourself to get 18 hours for minor. (or whatever your school requires).
Are you confusing accounting with business? That could be a good pairing with a biomedical engineering but, as @scmom12 suggested, you could get your undergrad degree in an engineering field and then get an MBA. That might be the better approach career-wise if your goal is to work in the business side of the bioengineering industry.
No, I just meant accounting. Would a double major and a minor be okay for undergrad? Then while you are getting your masters, you can take an MS/MBA and then get masters in both. Would that work? Thanks so much for your responses! @Otterma and @scmom12
At some point, you are going to have to pick something. Getting a whole bunch of different degrees won’t actually help you hedge your bets; it may just make you look scattered and unfocused. This is especially true in two highly-structured, pre-professional majors like engineering and accounting. Theoretically you can do this; in practice it would probably take you 5-6 years just to do the two degrees. And minors like languages and music are also pretty time-consuming: language requires lots of speaking practice and music often requires lots of lessons and/or recitals/rehearsals.
You can always just take classes in your interest areas without formally minoring or majoring.
