This might be a stupid question, but is it possible to finish college if your school runs on a quarter system? You would be able to take more classes/year right?

Generally speaking, the material that is covered in two semesters is the same as the material covered in three quarters. So you aren’t likely to finish any faster at one or the other.

What can get you out sooner, is knowing exactly what you want to study so that you don’t suddenly change majors, coming in with AP/IB/CLEP credits, taking classes in the summers and/or extra coursework during some semesters/quarters, and sticking closely to your major’s degree plan so that you complete exactly what is needed and nothing more.

Can you finish college earlier in a quarter-system school?

A lot depends on major and AP credits. Some majors may only require say 14/15 courses plus GEs to graduate which makes it very easy to graduate even in 3 years. Some other majors may have close to twice as many reqs for some majors in addition to GEs which can make graduating in 4 years trickier. AP credit becomes really important. The main reason is that kids typically register in order of credits earned. So seniors who have most credit and need to complete reqs to graduate have first shot at registration while freshman with fewer credits register last. So with AP credits kids not only can register earlier especially while lower division classes remain open, but also allow kids to create tight schedules minimizing their on campus.time which means they’re more likely to actually go to class.
