Open admission community colleges should admit anyone. High school records may be used for placement in some courses like English, math, etc…

For transfer to a four year school, check the four year school’s transfer admission web site to see whether anything from high school is required.

Most community colleges will admit students without a HS diploma or GED.

However, if you want to file the FAFSA and be considered for federally determined financial aid, you will need to have a HS diploma or GED. That is a relatively new policy that some people still aren’t aware of.

My nephew in CA has taken CC courses without a GED or HS diploma. For our D, taking the GED was a boost for her because she got a perfect 4000 out of a possible 4000 and we believe that made her transfer app stand out so she was accepted at the one U she applied to as a transfer.
