can you guys suggest some schools for me?

hey ya'll thanks for taking the time to look at this post. i would really appreciate if you guys would suggest a few schools for me to apply to, ive applied to some already (my top is uchicago) but i need to have some backups as well as a few more reaches. thanks again every1.

SAT - 1360 (crap i know) 710 math 650 verbal
SATII - math IIc 800, Chem 730, us history 720, writing 710
ACT - 35, english 33, math 35, reading 36, science 36
Class rank - 97% out of 441 ('burbs of chicago high school) but the school is crappy 'cept for the very top. avg ACT is 19.something.
GPA - 4.3 W 3.7 or so UW
EC's - captain of varsity gymnastics team (state silver in 2002, bronze in 2003), lots of individual invite titles, conference championships, individual state finals qualifier, lookin at nationals this year.
captain of varsity swimming team, all conference-all academic. also plenty of medals and ribbons. no state though.... too hard to make it from a school that has no pool.
nhs
Science olympiad - STATE physics champ 2004, Qual. analysis 7th place
science club
music - 1st chair 1st alto sax since soph. year. jazz band, made IMEA jr. year 2nd chair out of 26 or so schools.
lettermen's club
youth and government - senator, bill passed

AP classes: 4 in chem, 4 in us history, taking calc BC, physics, english, and spanish this year. most rigorous schedule... could have been better, but counselors decided to be gay and change around the times classes are held so i was left out of ap psych and ap bio.

bumpity bump

NYU? BOston UNiversity? well UC app. are done so no UC's..um..USC?

Colgate, Holy Cross or Bucknell. Of the 3 Holy Cross has best location 1 hour from Boston. And Holy Cross has good athletic program

ok thanks a lot for replying, how about schools that are known for engineering and/or physics?

If you want to stay close to Chicago I suggest-
Beloit College, Illinois Wesleyan and Lake Forest College, U of Ill-Urbana-Champaign

I'd also suggest in the midwest-
Grinnell (Iowa)
Carleton College (MN)
Macalester College (MN)

Nevermind those more of Liberal arts schools (I am sure most have good physics programs)

For engineering-
Rose-Hullman (indiana), Urbana-Champaign still works. Ill inst. of Technology, Northwestern (i'm hoping you know where) , Cooper Union (NY) Franklin W. Olin (MA), UW-Madison, Harvey Mudd (CA), Kettering University (MI) to name a few

Check out U of Rochester, BU, Vanderbilt, UI-UC, Indiana U.

I think you are a higher level than these recommendations. Northwestern, the non-HYPS Ivies, Chicago, Emory, WUSTL, JHU, Rice, etc are all within your reach.

awesome. so cornell would be a good match? i just finished my app. after deciding to apply there about an hour ago.

bump me up yo.

anymore suggestions? i could really use your guys' help! bump bump bump.

Cornell is a reach/ match but I think you will get in.

Also maybe look at Columbia, UMich, Princeton, and Swarthmore-- reaches all, of varying degree, but all definite possibilities.
GA Tech is a good match/safety.

umich a reach? maybe thats why i havent heard from them yet. thanks for replying by the way, keep them coming!

Michigan is not a reach, its a match/ safety. I would say Brown/ Dart/ Duke/ Penn as reaches, Northwestern/ WUSTL/ Rice as reach/ matches, Vandy/ UNC-CH/ Vassar/ Wake as matches, etc.

Slipper, Michigan is not a match/safety. It is a match...so are all thge schools he is applying to. A 35 on the ACTs witha top 3% class ranking makes most top 15 schools matches for this candidate.

You guys are overlooking the 35 ACT(that's about a 1570 SAT). With 700+ on the SATIIs great class rank and reasonable grades (3.7 UW is a little low at a school he? describes as "crappy", but with those great ECs, especially sports to offset), I would think most adcoms would discount the SAT as a "bad day". Maybe kids like him are the ones that get into top schools with "low" SATs, the single score doesn't tell the whole story. Good luck, you may need to apply to a number of reaches, because of the SAT and your UW average, but I think you will have some successes.

cangel, you're right, I was a bit hasty.

Yeah, Michigan is practically a safety with a 35 ACT
