I have the SAT Subject tests tomorrow and I'm not ready. I signed up for Math Level IIC and US History. I had AP US History but it was last year so I'm afraid I won't remember the concepts. Also with math, most of math I learned in 8th grade and I'm a junior now. I tried to review but after winter break I had to return to school where we had the last three weeks of the semester and I was extremely busy. I just had the last day of the semester today. I don't know a lot of the trig concepts well enough and I only have tonight. Even if I spend 7 hours at Barnes and Noble with the prep material I'm afraid I'm setting up myself up for failure, or a low score.

So can you just not show up?
Or can you make up an excuse to go to the missed date test or something.

You don't have to show up-- it's your choice. You won't get your money back that you paid for it, if I'm correct. Don't worry, no one's going to come after you or anything.

"You have until Feb 4, 2008 by 11:59 PM EST to make changes to this registration," as the admission ticket says. But there's a $21.00 fee for changing the test date.

If you don't show up, you can't get your money back but I have heard that if you make a reservation for a subsequent test by calling College Board rather than registering on line, College Board will apply the fee from the missed test to the new one. I never did this myself so I can't verify it for you, but it's worth a try.

Also, when you check your scores on line in the future, you will see that there will be a note next to the test that says "test still being scored" or something like that. That notice will appear forever. Don't worry about it. Colleges only receive the scores from tests you actually take. The fact that you didn't show up for the test will never show up on any score report.

Also remember that you can still show up, take the tests and cancel the scores if you don't like the way they went. Just remember that if you take more than one test, if you decide to cancel one score you wind up canceling all the scores from the tests you took that day. With subject tests you can also change the number and types of tests you take on the day you take the test. Just tell the person in charge of the test center what you are doing before you sit down to take the test. Since the history might be fresher in your mind, you could decide just to try the history and forgo the math and if you think the history goes well, keep that score.

Are you a junior? If you aren't a senior, and if you don't really need the scores, then you can/possibly even should wait (if you really do feel that uneasy about it). Also, you can take only one test if you want, and you can even change which test(s) you want to take (but if you want to take 3 tests, for example, but you only signed up for two, then you'd have to pay an extra fee).
