For what it’s worth, S was waitlisted at Villanova this year with a 3.7 UW GPA (3.95W), 31 ACT, 1990 SAT, 7 AP’s (all 4’s and 5’s so far), capt of 2 of his 3 varsity sports, senior class pres, lots of comm service and other EC’s, private college prep HS.

Sounds like no chance to get off the waitlist for business school. Accepted to Richmond, rejected at Penn (but not surprised). No major hooks, but not sure what Villanova looks at as far as hooks.

I would say definitely work on getting your GPA and SAT scores up (lots).

I would imagine that being a Hispanic from Virginia whi is also a recruited athlete would help. Because if what I have read is correct, villanova is made up of mainly white kids from the northeast. Also, I will not need a lot of financial aid so nova is really getting the best of both words. They get a prized minority without having to give alot if financial aid. Given all those reasons, I would I imagine that I am a higher priority for villanova then your son.

OP, I may be confused, but by your initial post, I am assuming that you are a high school junior, is that correct? I also notice several inconsistencies in your posts.

Since you only list 2 years participation in your sport so far, and you did not mention being a ‘recruited athlete’ as a hook in your original post, are you assuming that you will be recruited? (There are plenty of athletes out there with much better stats than yours, and cross country does not bring the university nearly as much money as, say, basketball.)

Are you also assuming that you will be a captain of your sport next year (unless ‘everyone’ gets to be a captain), and that you will be able to continue to be an aid and/or mentor? Even if accurate, I would try to expand/enrich your volunteer service and leadership activities.

A very glaring assumption on your part is that Villanova will only “have” to give you a small amount of financial aid. No private college/university in the country “has” to give anyone any amount of financial aid.

Another assumption you make is that my son is white and from the northeast. He is not.

Villanova’s business school is VERY selective. I would not assume that being in the “top quarter or so” of ANY high school, coupled with low SAT scores and a 3.39 GPA will get you admitted, even IF you are a recruited athlete and URM. (I also don’t see that you have taken a calc class; that is something that you should work into your courses if applying to B-schools.)

I’m not trying to be harsh here, but go check out the “Rejected” threads before you make the assumption that you are a “prized minority” and therefore more appealing than other students.

BTW – based on the sheer number of grammatical and spelling errors in your previous posts, I would make sure you have someone give your essay a thorough edit!

I was waitlisted a few weeks ago with a 2000 on my SATs, 3.5 gpa and tons of e.cs and community service… you definitely need to get your SAT score up a lot.
