Can you look at my friend?

I have a pal whose position interests me a lot. I hope he gets into Stanford SCEA, but I'm not quite sure what the likelihood is...

Rec's are excellent, so he says.

Essays are good.

No writing SAT?

No, I think he took the old one.

His stats are average for Stanford applicants, so that won't help him much, and he has to take the new SAT w/writing in order to be considered. By the way, did he take the ACT w/writing?

Unless they really need a bassoon (and he sent an audition tape), his chances are very slim.
And it does not matter what he is applying for - you get accepted into the university, not into a specific major. You don't even declare a major till the end of your sophomore year.

No, he does not need to take the new SAT. Stanford still accepts the old SAT for the class of '06. However, his verbal score is low for Stanford, and nothing really stands out.

Bassoon players are always in demand!

Wow, that stinks. Stanford is all that he's been talking about for the past 2-3 months...

well, look on the bright side, at least he hasn't been talking about it for the last two to three years :p

yeah, I have no clue about his chances, but I'd say bassoonist automatically stand out if they're good. I hope it helps a lot to have the music department give a good evaluation.

well, he auditioned at stan. says that it went well. would he even be deferred?
