Chances for friend, Harvard and Stan.

I have a pal whose position interests me a lot. I hope he gets into Stanford SCEA, but I'm not quite sure what the likelihood is...

White male, suburban high school. Also applying to Harvard regular.

ACT: 31 (?)
SAT: 600V 790M
SATII: Chem. ?, Span. ?, Writ. 720
Rank: 19/500
AP's: Chem. 5, Calc. BC 5

EC's:
Bassoon, 7 yrs.? (Primary Hook)
-applying for music and wants to transfer to aero-engineering
-All-district (10, 11, 12)
-All-state (11)

Took Multivar. Calc. (B-) and Diff Eq. twice (D, then B)
Foreign Language Club
Schol. Bowl

Rec's are excellent, so he says.

Essays are good.

very low chance at both schools. SAT/ACT is too low, and the EC's are pretty unremarkable

No chance unless for some reason, each school is desperately in need of a bassoon player and for some reason can't find anyone better (which is unlikey, because no matter how good you are at an instrument, there are always a bunch of people who are a helluva lot better)

i wouldn't say no chance at all. Doesn't hurt to try i guess.

1 in 18, maybe a little better for the bassoon.

Would he even get deferred at Stan.? He did take the time to audition with them on campus.

Maybe. He definitely looks like a solid math student though. Perhaps engineering should enter his mind?

He's not bad...received a B in 1st semester Calc. BC though.
