Is the CSS PROFILE just recommended if you want to know your financial aid package early, or is it absolutely required for all EA applicants?

For example, if a person didn't submit the PROFILE along with their EA application, would the school not consider the application at all, or would the student just have to wait until April to know his or her financial aid situation?

Does the school require the CSS Profile? If so, it will have to be completed before the school will consider a financial aid award. Most EA applicants try to meet the priority deadline (early) for the Profile, because most EA schools will give an estimated financial aid award either with or shortly after the EA decisions are sent out (in other words, the applicant doesn't have to wait until April to get the financial aid award...but this early one would be an estimate). My guess is that if you don't mind waiting until the RD financial aid awards are distributed, it's fine...BUT you should call to ask.

Regardless...if the school requires the Profile, they will not process your finaid request without it. Ditto any other required documents (e.g. tax returns, etc).

I just found a deadline on my ED school's website that says 2007 tax returns and wage statements are due YESTERDAY at my ED school, contradicting what it says on its Common APP PDF. I haven't submitted those yet, but have done my CSS. How much trouble am I in?

Send everything as soon as you can, and drop a note to the financial aid and admissions offices to let them know that the paperwork is indeed on its way.

Good luck!
