Im a Junior right now. Can you guys tell me how my chances are at all the UCs… I have really bad stats

UC GPA: 3.56 (3.2 Unweighted)
SATs: 1680 M:670 CR:470 W:540 (I know I will Improve because the range i got for the practice tests were WAY higher than this… I slept at 12 that night and i totally regret it now)
Sport: Tae Kwon Do for 5 Years (State Champion in 2005 and going to National Champions this Summer)

My Tae Kwon Do master was an Olympic Champion in 1988… would that help?

i'll vote for UCSC, UCR, UCM, and UCI... the rest, no. broaden your college search, look at out of state and you'll find lots of colleges besides the UCs you might be interested in... everybody in CA is stuck in a mindset that they have to go UC, but with the stats it takes to get into a decent UC you can get a better education out of state in my opinion...

berkeley/ucla:very high reach
san diego: reach
santa barbara/irvine/davis: match
santa cruz/riverside/merced: safety

The thing is, you have to sell yourself really well. You do have a few brilliant remarks on your resume, and if you can use that to your advantage, you'll probably make it to a mid-tier UC.

Your GPA in particular is eating away your chances.

you have a shot at Santa Cruz, Riverside and Merced. Everything else...no. Other people said SB and Irvine were good matches, but you need to raise your SAT's about 200 points for that to be the case and your GPA should be like 3.7ish also for SB and I

No one will care if your instructor was an Olympic champion. They care about YOU. That's one mistake people make in their essays. They talk about family members or friends and how inspirational they are, but then they forget to talk about the most important person - THEMSELVES. Make sure to make your essay about you, not about the impressive people you've associated with.

M1st3rmarbl3s, hey.. don't be discourage... getting into a UC is basically a number game... you just gotta kno which college value what more...

Also, I have to say that it doesn't matter how many clubs you're in... what matters is the position that you hold in that club... UCs give a lot of points for leadership!

Also, make sure you milk as much as you can regarding ur state-wide championship... UCs love that stuff... (especially LA)..

Also, if you're aiming for Davis... make sure you take alot of preperatory classes... Davis gives up to 1000 extra points base on the number of classes you take over the minimum... (community college is always a good option)

Also, if you're a junior rite now.. a good way to bring up ur GPA is by taking community college classes in the summer(ones taht you know you can Ace)... those classes are weigthed so your GPA would go shooting up there.... I took three last summer, which really helped me during the admission process...
