Can you recommend colleges to me?

My Stats:
GPA: 3.7
SAT: 2140 (730M/680CR/730W)
State: New York
Ethnicity: White
Prospective major: Biology possibly (I'm definitely going in as pre-med)

EC's:
Guitar (6 years)
Ukulele (2 years)
Oboe (5 years -- no longer play -- street cred went down significantly)
Service Club member (kinda)
Foreign Language Honor Society
Poem published
Intramural Baseball (3 years)
Travel Baseball (3 years)

Awards:
Astronomy student of the year

Priorities (in order):
1. Affordable
2. Decent academics (75th percentile SAT scores are 1200/1800+)
3. 5,000+ Undergraduates
4. Located on the east coast (preferably near or below NY), in Texas or in California.
5. Favorable Guy/Girl ratio (Guys are at most 50% of students)
6. Party scene that's not overwhelming, but still there
7. Good looking girls

Side note: My course rigor wasn't all that hard. I'm in my junior year and I've taken 2 AP's and 1 honor's course. I took AP world as a sophomore (2 on exam), and took AP USH as junior (expecting 3-4). Taking 3 AP's senior year (Physics, Economics, English). I have a pretty strong upward trend (kinda). (Freshman- 3.6 UW, Sophomore 3.1 UW, 3.5 W, Junior 4.0 UW). My low GPA sophomore year was due to my parent's divorce and I just wasn't ready for the work. Might write about it in my essay, we'll see. Also, my school doesn't offer that many AP's. Right now I'm ranked 86/237, but that's based on my Sophomore/Freshman GPA's.

And reach schools aren't really an option, considering I don't think I'll get much aid, so I'd prefer matches. I'm applying to NYU for sh*ts and giggles. And my LOR writer graduated from there. And it might disappoint him if I don't apply there.

You obviously know NYU is not affordable. Which of the SUNYs or CUNYs appeals to you? Look at the pinned threads in the financial aid forum

@Erin’s Dad I like Binghamton, Geneseo, Stony Brook and Albany. I like a lot about Albany: location, price, corresponding medical school. I just don’t know how I feel about the excessive partying.

Can you recommend any CUNYs with good pre-med counseling? I’ve never really been a city person, so I never really looked into those colleges, but I’m beginning to have a change of heart. I hear NYC has a decent selection of women. BTW, I live on Long Island, and I do want to get out of here, I’m only applying to Stony Brook because it will cost me next to nothing.

Also, how do I tag you if you have a space in your name?

Can you define affordable?

Where is Mom2collegekids - Sleeping on the job. :-)

I believe that your stats are such that you would get a full tuition scholarship at University of Alabama. They have pretty girls to your hearts content, and a lot of good students in the honors program. It sounds ideal for a premed Casanova.

EYYY Oboe in the house! I also play the oboe (6 or 7 years). I’m not sure if I can help you with the affordable factor, but I’m sure you can get some scholarships. Funny enough, we have the exact same stats. (I have a little bit more ECs and challenging courses, but you have that life situation going for ya). Here are a few colleges I’ll be applying to:
UCLA, SD, Davis
Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Boston College, University of Michigan

@ClassicRockerDad Sorry, I should’ve specified. My parents make a total of $140k, but they tell me they can only afford $20K. I’m not sure how much my dad will contribute, but he makes $80K. That leaves me an irritating situation for financial aid. And I’ve been looking at University of Alabama. Definitely considering it, especially if I get in the honors program.

@tguan916 Small world haha. Well you definitely have a lot better colleges in mind than I do. I don’t think I could compete in any of those colleges, honestly. I’m smart but I have poor study habits. I think I’m best suited for a less competitive college.

Can I recommend colleges… NO.
Do some research yourself.
If you have a list to narrow down then that is a different story.

University of Kentucky and University of Texas Dallas also have aggressive scholarship programs.

McCauley honors at cuny schools . Basically free, prestigious, good pre med . Good benefits for honors . Big city

@TomsRiverParent I have done plenty of research, I’m trying to figure out if anyone has opinions or insights on any colleges I may not be familiar with. If you are looking for my current list, here it is:

Top colleges (VERY rough draft):

  1. Loyola University Maryland
  2. University of Miami
  3. SUNY Binghamton
  4. University of Alabama
    5.SUNY Albany
  5. SUNY Geneseo
  6. Marist College
  7. NYU
  8. Syracuse University
  9. University of Pittsburgh

Most of these don’t meet all the requirements. These are not the only colleges I want to look at. I would like other’s opinions of other colleges that have some of my criteria. Although, I would not mind opinions of these colleges either.

@PrayforUF I have heard of the program, it’s a very good deal. This does contradict my previous post, but there’s something about the CUNYs that turns me off. I don’t know what it is.

@ClassicRockerDad There’s something about Kentucky that seems off to me. But, I’m perfectly fine with Alabama. Ugh. This doesn’t make sense, even to me. I would LOVE to go to UT Austin, but I would never be able to pay it. I do have a rich uncle who lives in Texas, but we don’t talk. Darn.⃣

Your geographically all over the place. lol
You’re a NY resident, I’m surprised Suny Stony Brook (especially since you are considering med school) isn’t on your list but other Suny’s are.
I graduated Pitt undergrad. It’s in the city. akin to NYU. Great Medical School.
Don’t see how Marist is on your list.

@TomsRiverParent My uncle went to Marist, I personally like it, and it’s not as far away as the other colleges. I am applying to Stony Brook, but I didn’t include it because I don’t really want to go there unless I have to. I live about 10 minutes away from it, and I would have to commute every day. Also the whole girl thing. Not really a thing at Stony Brook.

You need to decide…
Do you want girls… or do you want med school. You can’t have both… ain’t happening.

@TomsRiverParent Pretty closed-minded thinking. I don’t need a corresponding medical school. I’m confident in my intelligence and know I can a pull 3.7+ GPA at any college I go to. I like standardized tests as well. The MCAT should be fun. I think I’ll be just fine. This may come off as naïve but oh well.

Good luck. I knew many who called themselves “pre-med” at Pitt that graduated top 10% at their HS. Chased skirts. Didn’t get the grades.
Ended up as pschy majors on the 5yr plan in which their career turned into being a salesman.

@TomsRiverParent Well they clearly didn’t balance their time well. Should’ve gotten their heads in the game. They probably wouldn’t have been chasing skirts if they had done what I’m doing and found colleges where the “skirt chasers” are the ones being chased. Saves time.

They were in the game alright.
And being chased as several ended up as suite-mates to football players. Actually some may have been inducted to NFL HOF but definitely went played pro several years. The parties they had!!! lol

I meant to say, some of the football players may have been inducted or nominated to NFL HOF.

I’d also like to throw in that I’m interested in Trinity college, if anyone has any input.
