I’m actually quite terrified if I don’t apply to UCs, I’m going to screw myself over in the end. I hate the west coast but I need a few schools I can rely on.

Since you seem to like the east coast cities, I’d look into GW (match) and Georgetown (reach) (in DC), Fordham in NY (safety), BC (reach) and Tufts (match) in Boston, U of Penn in Philadelphia (reach).

State universities in your home state should provide safeties.

With respect to private schools, check their common data sets for admission criteria. If “level of interest” is a consideration, then the school probably does not like being used as a safety and may reject applicants who appear to be using it as a safety.

Of course, any safety needs to be affordable. Put “net price calculator” and/or “financial aid estimator” in each school’s web site search box.

I ended up taking ucb’s advice and applying to some good safeties in Cali. I don’t think I’ll be applying to many safeties on the East coast anymore…just the reach schools I hope to get into. Thanks everyone.

I’m going to assume money is not a factor. CMU has a very strong business school, BC, so many of the LACs have sold Econ and great business networks-Colgate, Bates, and or reaches, Dartmouth and Williams.
