I'm doing EE as my major and I'm transferring to another college in the fall and haven't talked to the adviser there yet. But this question is bugging me. Can I take physics classes in place of any EE classes? Has anyone else done this?

For instance, I'd much rather take E&M from the physics department than the EE department.

Unlikely.
The E&M from physics will be somewhat different than what you study in EE E&M.
In EE you will go over transmission lines, reflections, etc.

I’d STRONGLY recommend you work with the target U that you plan to transfer to about selecting your courses if you want them to help you get closer to graduation. D did that and once she started working their the advisor, most of her courses selected from then on did count toward her degree. Courses she had selected on her own, some did & others didn’t count. She also thought this gave her an edge in getting accepted. :)
