can you take summer school to get ahead?

I am a freshmen in high school and I am in algebra 1. I feel like I am not being challenged and don't want colleges to think I am taking easy classes (I plan on going to UVa). I have a 4.0 GPA and I want to be in a higher class. So my question is, can you take a class over the summer to get ahead rather than just going through my high school career regretting the fact that I didn't do this and not taking upper level math classes? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Some schools offer classes over the summer. And some schools allow you to double up on math for a year. Either option works, but talk to your guidance counselor to see if there is a way for you to be take Calculus during senior year. Follow that path if it is given.

For a number a reasons my youngest son ended up in alg1 his fresh year. As drac313 states your goal ideally is to finish in Calc your Sr. year. You should be able to do this through summer school, doubling up in Geometry next year, or by taking Geometry online. My son was able to take Geometry online in one semester offered by his county. His situation was extenuating so he did get permission to take it co-currently with Alg 1. Talk to your GC an see what your options are. UVa is an awesome school and a great goal. If you are instate Virginia has amazing schools so make sure to keep a really open mind to all of the wonderful options! Best of luck!
