Hi, I have just started looking at Fuqua as one of the places to which I'm considering applying. The main reason I'm looking at it is because it has a 36% acceptance rate even though it's ranked at #9 by Business Week, and all of the categories used in the ranking got very high marks (A and A+). So I figure it would be worth looking at. Also, they have a pretty good marketing MBA program as well. I guess one of the drawbacks is that it's in North Carolina, not exactly a metropolitan area, although it is developing pretty fast. So in terms of networking, it may not be as good as other top B-Schools. Right now, I'm just looking to learn more about the school before I make my decision. Can anyone tell me if there's anything else I should keep in mind about applying to Fuqua or the school itself in general?

And lastly, can anyone tell me how to correctly pronounce Fuqua? Sorry, I know it's a dumb question, but I think it'd be kinda important to know.

Certainly Fuqua won't be able to compete with Stanford, Columbia, and Harvard in terms of location, although I think you can make a case that we'd* give Michigan a run for its money.

One important thing, though, is that we have the Research Triangle Park (RTP). Many pharmaceutical firms have major centers there. Glaxo comes to mind, but there's many others as well. In terms of tech, IBM and SAS both have major headquarters in RTP.

*I did my undergrad at Duke and was not affiliated with Fuqua.

Fuqua is my third choice for MBA programs when I appy with Kellogg and Wharton being my top choices.

Pro's:
-RTP
- Ranked Third in Marketing
- Heathcare Sector Management Program
- Overall, a solid school but also out of the top 10, maybe the easiest to get into (30-40% admission rate).
- Gets high recruiter marks
- Overall Duke Brand name
- Quicker course modules

Negatives:

-Alumni network only 11,000 (Compared to most top schools 30k +)
- Smaller Class size at 410 students (This is a preference though)
- Not necessarily seen as a quant school
- Still isn't as strong as the very top schools in top tier business job placement
