So can you tell which engineering major would best fit you by which part of physics you like the most? Like if I liked statics, Newton’s laws, etc. would it make sense to major in mechanical engineering?
That’s what I did. I waited until I finished physics 1-3 and chem 1-2 until I declared which discipline I wanted to go into. Being that I enjoyed the stuff from physics 1 (mechanics) and physics 3 (waves, thermo, etc.) I made the decision to go into MechE. I’m almost in my senior year and am very happy with my decision. So I would say yes, your core science classes can be a great determiner of which discipline you’d feel the most comfortable in.
That’s what I did too (although I started as Civil Engineering first). Physics Elec/Magnetism was definitely not my cup of tea, so that ruled out EE.
To an extent, yes. However, it won’t tell you if you like biology or chemistry. For example, even if you LOVE the mechanics side of physics, you will be miserable in MatSci if you don’t like chemistry.
