Canadian College Admissions

I am a US resident and i wanted to know the acceptance rates, etc. if i were to apply to Canadian universities. I am also in IB, im not sure how much that would benefit me. Some universities that i am looking into at the moment include :

McGill
McMaster
university of Toronto
York University

If there are any other good universities more info on them would be appreciated. :)

I think SAT-wise, a 2000 is high enough to get into any of those schools. IB will likely help. If you want more info, there are some Canadian forums that might be of interest. I’d suggest [this one](http://forums.studentawards.com)

Both my American kids went to Canadian universities (U of T and Queen’s). I would agree that 2000 SAT should be fine for the schools. Best source I know of if you are interested in looking at rankings is Macleans Magazine which is sort of the USN&WR of Canada rankings.
Some conclusions from my kids’ experiences…

 1. Not much grade inflation at the universities- grading is really tough.
 2. U of T especially is really big and there aren’t the kind of hand holding services you get in the U.S. Be honest in your evaluations of yourself. If you are likely to need extra support either look pretty small in Canada (i.e. Acadia, Mount Allison or St. Francis Xavier) or avoid Canada.
 3. Here’s an op-ed I wrote about going to school in Canada you might find helpful.

I agree with the points above. As you are in Florida, I doubt that too many kids will be applying from your school. However, if someone is surfing into this discussion from the Northeast, some of these schools are pretty popular choices, where McGill or U of T may only take two kids from a school and if you are the odd man out, your 2000 score will be of little comfort.
