Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows any honor societies, NGOs, youth charities or organizations that I could take part in Canada? I want to get more recognition to put on my university application.

Thanks, glad you know the french verses to the Canadian anthem. :)

Anyone know the answer to my question though?

the thing is that you live in canada…you probably go to school there too…i’m sure you live in a neighborhood; so there’s bound to be plenty of opportunities if ask somebody who lives there

here’s a resource: [Charity Village® Nonprofit Neighbourhood](<a href=“Organizations | CharityVillage”>Organizations | CharityVillage)

My understanding is that Canadian schools don’t care about out-of-school things. Top American schools don’t care about honor societies or most anything else you could just participate in on the side. Non-top US schools don’t really care about out-of-school things either. My advice is to find what you like and do it, because it probably won’t matter that much in the end and you don’t want to waste your time doing things you don’t like.

I’m actually very passionate about community service, and charity work.
Do you think it’ll be better to start my own charity/non-profit org than joining a large youth organization?

^no difference…unless you’re doing ROTC (if you’re eligible) or you’re going to a super selective college

Better in what way? I’d recommend starting your own charity/non-profit only if you can contribute a lot more to the community that way.

siglio21- yes, I am aiming for very selective colleges (like the Ivies). It’s just that I see that a lot people have this organization and that charity attached to their resume, so I want to be able to be compared to.

aigiqinf- I guess it would show that I am driven, and I have good management skills?

Enough said, please refer back to my original post (repeated above for convenience). In other words, find what you love and do that because to do anything that will impress the ivies you have to love it truly and even if you do you may not get in, so why do 10,000 hours of community service if you hate it if you may or may not get in anyway?
