canadian students-ec's

since canadian students have limited access to excellent ec's, are they judged on a different scale than american students?

this is very important info for me, so if anyone has any advice, that'd be great

ya i want to know too

same here!!

I'm not from Canada, but I'm in the same situation. So I'd like to know too!

does anyone have any ideas?

That's wrong, you have so much ECs from sports to clubs to conferences and even research. We have even more opportunities than students in the states because not many students are willing to pursue them. You just need to keep a look out for them
And if there's not that EC then START IT! take the initiative!
I'll just list some stuff i did and i heard of:
OFFSA (a sport)
Chemistry Contest
Biology Contest
Physics/Science Contest
Science research
DECA
Science olympics

Just look around :)

thank you for the advice. i really appreciate your suggestions, however i'm planning to major in business. so would you have any ideas for humanities or business related ec's?

also, what exactly is DECA?

It's a club for students interested in business. I know in the states there are comps or something. Look it up.

DECA is a business club, and the students meet weekly and talk about accounting and stuff like that, and they learn business related things and come up w/ projects and go to conferences, it's one of the best clubs for students headed in to business.
Sorry since i am a science student i don't really know any business ECs
But OFFSA (sport) is a universal EC

any advice on how to start a chapter? my school already has a business/entrepreneurship club

does anybody have ideas for canadian humanities or business ec's?

^be creative! i can't start the club for you :)
You gotta do it!

thanks for the encouragement, i'm going to start a debate team at my school :) and perhaps a deca chapter

so i guess the general consensus is that canadian students will be judged on their ec's in exactly the same way as american students?

not exactly, but quite similar

Why would one think American students would know the answer to the above?

I also don't think Canadians are more limited at all in ECs. Its a big country, we have lots and lots and lots of competitions, awards, lessons you can take, clubs you can join, volunteer work you can do, leadership you can demonstrate. What is it you think you are missing exactly?
