So im in a bit of a problem regarding percentage to Grade Point Average.

I want to attend Harvard University, but I was wondering how Harvard will be convert a % to a GPA. I emailed them and they said they look at each applicant individually and in context of their respective schools.

If you know the answer can you please calculate what the gpa of these marks are:

By the way, 85% and over is an A at my school.. Will harvard use my schools grading scale to calculate the GPA or will they use their own scale for international students?

i would imagine that your GPA would come out to a 4.0 or high 3.x on the american scale, but since most canadian schools don't use GPAs there is really no official way to calculate yours.

rather than looking at grades on a scale that is not familiar to them, harvard will instead rely on your SAT & SAT II's and your grades relative to your classmates (top 5%, top 10%, bottom 25%, etc.) or class rank, if applicable.

They do not convert your average to a 4.0 or 5.0 scale. Your school will need to send them the grading system from your province as well as your rank to provide them enough info.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the admissions officers each focus on different regions. So there's probably someone who is at least somewhat familiar with your scoring system.

thecount is right when it comes to region specific admissions officers. they do have people on staff familiar with canadian schools and grading who review our applicants exclusively. having said that, you will be asked to provide your GPA and your class rank on the forms that you're to have your guidance counsellor fill out. just have him/her write a brief note explaining that your school does not record this type of information and instead provide your percent average for all four years where it calls for GPA and your approximate position in your graduating class (which is a more important bit of information than your average) in the spot provided. this information (along with your SATs and various letters of recommendation) will be more than enough for the panel.

with regards to what menuetto said, you are not going to be asked to contact your provincial school board nor will you be asked to send in the grading system for your province. there is an spot on the counsellor's form for him/her to write down what constitutes a passing grade at your school (50%, 60%, etc.). whoever is reviewing your app will be familiar with your region, and will contact your if they need any further clarification.
