I'm a Canadian Student and I've been wondering the proper way to calculate a US GPA. Over here we use percentages and don't have our grades inflated for IB/AP courses, they are still out of the standard 100%.
From looking around the site, I have gathered that a 4.0 is over 93% (generally, I understand that i varies from school to school), and that a 90-93 is a 3.9
If somebody could verify that and maybe link me to proper list it would be much appreciated.
Also, are IB classes worth 5 points out of the four? How would the scale work relative to percentage for an IB class?
Thanks so much, I'm very confused with all of this and any help is much appreciated :)

I don’t think that you should be calculating a GPA and then state it in any official application/form. That calculation, if its in fact necessary, needs to be done by a representative of your school. They would know how to translate the Canadian grade into an american equivalent, or they may decide to provide the percentages. Colleges that are familiar with international students would prefer the raw grades. They have their own methodology to compare students.

Oh, okay then, will the colleges be aware of the differences in the grading systems and everything as well then?
I think my school does send a class rank, which should be quite indicative in itself

Colleges aren’t stupid. They have admission officers reading applications from the same region so whoever’s reading your application should be very familiar with the Canadian grading system. They might even know your particular school well too if students from your school continually apply, like which courses are easier and which are harder.
