Canadian unis vs American unis

I'm a high school student in US and considering about going to University of Toronto because:
- It's ranked high in world university ranking (about 20th)
- It's easy to get into (I heard that its acceptance rate is about 60%)
- The tuition is cheap

However, U of T is sometimes considered not so competitive due to its high acceptance rate. Is it really less competitive than top 20~30 American schools like UCLA, UMich and Emory, even though it surpasses them in many rankings?

I heard that Canadian universities have different education style from American one and focuses more on specialization rather than diversity in education. I like this tendency and hope this would be true. Is it actually true?

Easy to get in to University of Toronto but they have a high flunk out rate. The rankings are based heavily on graduate study and research output.

It is true that you can specialize more heavily at UofT vs. American Us, but even with a specialist degree you still have some breadth requirements that amount to ~3-5 Toronto credits (don’t remember the exact number, but one Toronto credit is worth 6 semester credits or 9 quarter credits)

Catria, which Canadian uni has less or no general ed/core subject requirements?

Not the OC, but Queen’s University has no core subject requirements.

U of T has a higher acceptance rate but many of its students get suspended due to low GPA. I would reconsider your options. It might be better to go for UCLA, UMichigan etc.

Tuition at U of T is not cheap. It’s about 32K for international students. This does not include fees/room and board/ books etc.

bouders, for internationals that would translate to 45k?? at least?? am i correct?

Yes, about 45K USD.
