Hey guys,

does anyone know the statistics for canadians applying to harvard? Is it possible to get into ivy league from a small, relatively new regional school?

It is possible, but it is very difficult. I actually just finished my application to harvard a couple of months ago (Im in grade 12) and I had my interview a couple weeks ago. The lady said that about 6 people apply to harvard from Sask, and 0-2 of those people get in. Then she went on to say how tons of people apply from Calgary, Edmonton, all of BC and all of Ontario. So if you really want to go there then I would apply. I wasn’t easy at all, but if you want something that badly it is worth it to apply. Its true, a lot of applicants will have tons of AP classes and opportunities that might not be available to you. But don’t let that stop you, harvard will consider your application in the context of your school. Just make sure that you are taking the hardest classes available to you at your school, and follow what you are passionate about. There is no “formula” for getting into schools like harvard. It will be difficult but it will be worth it! Good luck!! And message me any time if you want help with the application process.

Thanks! Yeah, cause my school’s new and quite unknown with no AP classes. Our levels are only University, College and Mixed. How important are leadership positions in clubs? And since I’m not planning to go into math, I only plan to take one math in grade 12. Is that okay?

You can get into top schools from a small, relatively unknown high school in Canada without AP. It’s all about standing out in some way, and to do that it doesn’t matter what school you come from.

I’m guessing that Harvard accepts about 30 students from Canada each year…and about 500 apply…other people can comment on these figures. o.o

The exact number of accepted Canadians will vary each year but count on ~30-50% of them being recruited athletes.

If you can get across love of learning, and show your “passion” (I hear adcom doesn’t like this word though) through your courses, depth of ec’s, and subject/AP tests, then you have as good a chance if not better than any applicant! :)

Actually, I just had my Harvard interview today. My interviewer said that about 20% of the people who apply from the Toronto region are accepted (I’m not sure if he meant just Harvard or all the Ivy Leagues). But then, he also added that most of the applicants are really competitive to begin with, and most of them come from prep schools.

Any Canadians receive likely letters?

^I know a few people who did (not from Harvard, but other Ivies). They are, however, recruited athletes and therefore do not count IMO haha

^ Ah I see. Damn athletes ;p
