Canadians at Harvard???

[1] How many Canadians are accepted each year?

[2] Are Canadians treated the same as domestic applicants in regards to financial aid?

yup, treated same for financial aid

30-40 accepted each year approximately.

http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/prospective/applying/stats/

As you can see from the pie graph there, 1.8% of the admitted pool is from Canada.

1.8% * 2110 = 37.98 = 38

38 out of how many Canadian applicants?

^probably thousands.

Yea I'm from canada and got in EA.

Stats:
81% average
SAT I: 1230 (600 V/630 M)
SAT II's: 630 writing/690 IIC/660 bio
AP's: Macro 4, Bio 3
EC's: Varsity Football 2 years, Baseball 2 years

is this ur overall gpa or seniot yr?

obviously he is either URM or recruited.

I didn't know they would even go that low for URM or recruited. Not to be mean or anything, but as far as I was aware the standards were similar, but EC's would be more concentrated for recruits.

but aren't Canadian schools generally harder?

Well, I am a white male and was not recruited. And the 81% is my average right now (senior yr.)- I had marks in the 80s throughout high school. And yes Candian schools are much harder because there is no grade inflation like there is in the US. Usually grades in the 80s are very good.

I was kinda suprised I got in too. I actually applied as a joke, but I guess my father had something to do with it. He graduated from Harvard in '67 and donated lots of money- I'm talking millions. HAHA I guess it helps to have connections and be rich.

Mr_Met, are you lying? 81% average isn't bad in canada, but it is in no way high now, is it? besides Harvard expectations of canadians are similar, but not the same to expectations of americans. Okay, so maybe a little lower. Either way, i find it difficult to believe your getting admitted with those insignificant and relatively average stats. And your name has 89 in it, indicative of birth in 1989 and a sophomore? The truth would be appreciated, thanks! btw, i'm canadian too.

what do u guys know (or think) of the differences in expectations between Canadian and American students?

i think they're justified. Canada really does have less research opportunities here ya know. Also, the school system is way lax and ultra uncompetitive. It sucks and rocks at the same time, cause the kids are stupid, but that eliminates competition for the smarter kids.

No I'm not lying. My 81% average might not be great but it's not horrible. And yes- Harvard has high expectation of Candaians. My friend got rejected and he had over a 1500 on his SAT. But my dad is an active alumnus and has connections.

lucky you. what were ur other stats?

i see, well I believe you. Did your friend have anything to his advantage other than a 1500+ sat, cause i'm sure harvard wants stellar ec's from canadians too. btw, which province do you live in? You must be like super rich.

I'm living in Canada too, but my ecs really really suck. Does any Canadians here have suggestions on what i CAN do? Because truly there isn't that much opportunities here.

And Seth Blue i agree with you that there are less research opportunities in Canada. Are you currently doing research? what does it take?

no, i don't do research, basically no opportunities to research or do internships. Sucks ****, especially for people who want to transcend their capabilities, aka overahievers. I'm canadian btw

hey seth blue, what area are u from in canada?
