Canadians Study In Us

Hi I am a Canadian citizen and plan to go to University in the state for Musical Theatre. As an international student, all the universities Im looking at require a PROOF of FINANCIAL SUPPORT when submitting with the ADMISSION APPLICATION.

My parents won't be able to pay much for University in the states. So I look for financial loans. I look at some Student LOANS (for example the bank, in this case TD CANADA TRUST BANK). They require me to have an acceptance letter from the University Im going to in order to provide me the the financial support.

So to get admit to University, I need Proof of Financial Support, but I can't get Financial Support unless the university accepts me. This doesn't make any sense...

Anyone has S or D that studying abroad in the States can provide me more info on this?

Do you need a student visa to study in the States as a Canadian student?

The university needs the proof of financial support to issue the I-20 which is needed to apply for a student visa which you may or may not need. However, this does not become relevant until after you have been accepted and decided to enroll.

My experience as an international applicant who relied on financial aid:
Some colleges don't ask for the Proof of Financial Support until after you've been accepted. Great.
Others want it right with the application for admission. For those, I completed the form as well as I could and added that I will apply for a loan to cover a certain amount if I am to enroll, but cannot actually apply for it until I have been accepted. All colleges have accepted that.

Mystious: I think you may be misinterpreting the colleges' requirements, but if you're not I don't know the answer. None of the colleges that I applied to required any proof of financial support with the application. Once you are getting your I-20, then yes, you'll need that proof, but I never had to do more than check a box whether or not I was applying for aid when I was applying.

It would help if you told us which colleges you're applying to.

Barium, I don't need a f-1 visa as a canadian to study in US. If if thats the case about Financial Proof submitting after the acceptance, then I misunderstood the requirement sections. Cuz the universities put all the requirements in the same sections and I misunderstood what can be send after and all that stuff.
University Im looking at are Western Michigan, Point Park, Kent State, SUNY buffalo.
