Canceling AP Scores

Let's say I took 3 AP exam and did well on two of them. If I canceled the third one, would it affect me badly during the admissions process because of the cancellation or the lack of an AP exam score for that class?

You don’t submit official AP scores when you apply to college. You self report them. If you don’t like a score, don’t report it. There is nothing to be gained by cancelling a score.

For real? Wouldn’t that be sorta like lying though?

It depends on whether you’re applying to very selective colleges, and on whether it is typical for the strongest students in your school to take AP courses. I’ll assume that that’s your situation. If so colleges would like to see you take the more/most rigorous program that your school offers, and that can be a program with a significant number of APs. So if you take them to stay competitive, then a lack of a grade from the AP test is likely to look odd – an absence of closure.

Sorry for all the “ifs”. There is no simple answer.

Alright, well I called 3 universities today: USC, UCLA, and NYU. Out of them, both USC and NYU told me that AP scores, if only being used for gaining credit, would not affect admissions. UCLA also said that not reporting scores wouldn’t necessarily affect someone adversely, but if they reported a lot of good scores, it would make them more competitive.
