I am going to the CW in March and I was wondering exactly what are Design Activities?? What kind of prompts/projects/activities do they ask the candidates to do??

It’s just a fun team bonding activity to make candidates feel at ease, help them get to know their possible future classmates and how teams work together at Olin. It’s not evaluated and is not meant to be a competition. It also is supposed to be somewhat of a surprise to candidates, so please don’t worry if you don’t get anything more specific than this. There are some photos of the design build from past Candidate’s Weekends on the Olin flickr page, but the challenges are completely different from year to year.

They specifically asked both parents and students not to say what the design activity is, in fact, to keep it a surprise. I think the fact that the Olin students working on the design activity with the candidates have shirts on that say “This activity will not be evaluated” is a good, constant reminder for the candidates.

In my mind, the design activity is mostly to help the candidates decide if the Olin project-based approach is more appealing than traditional curriculum. Enjoy the opportunity!

I just went and it was awesome! Can’t tell what it is but its really a team bonding exercise that’s not evaluated
