Can't decide between nurse practioner and doctor?

I will be a freshman in college next year and I'm having trouble deciding what I want to go into. I've researched pros and cons to both, but can't make up my mind. If I did nursing, I would want to be a Neonatal Nurse Practioner. If I decided to be a doctor, I think maybe an Obstetrician or a Neonatal Surgeon, however I may change my mind entirely by the the time I finish med school! Is there a way to take a central path in college that would allow to explore both nursing and pre-med so that I can decide what I want to do? I have tried to shadow doctors or nurses at the nearby hospital, but they won't allow me to because of patient confidentiality rules. Any advice that can lead me to the better occupation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If I were you I would, go to medical school and see what rotation you like the most. But what you can do right
now as a college freshman is study hard and wait until your in med school - No need to rush.

By next year, do you mean fall 2015?

Start your gen ed requirements, include some math and science for science majors, and then at least wait until you get through a semester or two of undergrad.

You can get a bachelor’s degree in nursing and still take the required courses to sit for the MCAT and apply to medical school. You can also look into accelerated 1 year RN programs that several schools offer to those who already have their bachelor’s degree.
