can't decide which school is better

hey,

trying to compare Stanford and Duke. I know this forum might be a bit biased, but how do they compare: in terms of overall prestige, economics department, recruiters, grad school placement, nice students, etc. Anybody have any info to shed light on this comparison? Thanks

Depending on what you want to be in the future. If you want to become a profession in medical, you may want to choose Duke. Other than that... Stanford pwns.

I wonder why you said this. I am a premed student currently starting the medical school application process. I have found Stanford to be a great environment for me; it has provided me with an excellent, well-rounded education while giving me many opportunities for clinical volunteering, extracurriculars, and teaching.

Overall prestige - I'd say Stanford has significantly more.

Stanford has very nice students. I don't know about Duke, so I won't attempt to make a comparison. I have found that students here have diverse interests and backgrounds, but we're quite tolerant of each other and eager to learn from each other. Sure, some people are nicer than others, but in general the people I have met are very warm and friendly.

thanks celestial!

Stanford has more prestige and better overall professional school placement, but I don't know whether Stanford offers a better undergrad economics education...

celestial: if you would like to see how much research $ Duke spends each year on medical research, go to Duke's website and go to its undergraduate admission website.

And also, Duke is ranked second by U.S. World & News (2006) for specialty in biomedical, only after Johns Hopkins (hope I spell that right).

It all depends on course. If you want to have a holistic view, Stanford is better.
