Is it a pre-screen this year? Because last year a friend of mine traveled across the country thinking she passed the pre-screen and came back saying it was a video upload but not really a pre-screen process. She was not happy.

There was definitely a pre-screen. Then they contact you by email to schedule an audition date and time.

Actor 12, that is really strange because the live auditions were based on scheduled appointments that you were invited to if you passed the video upload/prescreen. Hopefully, she did not just show up for the live audition.

Well, I think Actor12 is right about there being confusion at least on the MT side. Not sure about acting, but there were a lot of complaints about their process last cycle with walk-ins and pre-screens and people coming to campus and then being quickly and publicly dismissed. It was a bit of a mess. They posted some apologies and explanations and so forth and I’m pretty sure they said in one of those that they had never called it a pre-screen. But thinking about it, that was probably just musical theater.

That is strange. My D applied for both musical theater and acting. She received two emails and scheduled the two auditions. I do know some people were rejected academically and I believe they were informed their auditions were cancelled.

No, she had an appointment but was cut in about 5 minutes. She’s going to NYU so it’s all good.

Well fantastic for her that she is going to NYU. But for the record, plenty of kids passed the video upload prescreen, attended the audition and were eliminated upon their 5 min audition and not asked to stay for callbacks. All of the programs that have a same day callback feel awful for those that traveled far for the program. Very discouraging part of this audition process which is why its best to cast a wide net. Also a good reason to try to schedule several auditions in a location and plan the Unified’s carefully.
