My daughter was accepted and she is very excited because it is one of her top choices. We visited by car, but she will most likely need to fly back and forth.....can anyone tell me the best airport to fly into and is there any way to get to the campus from the airport without a car?

Dulles is probably the easiest airport to get to using the JMU transportation options. Shenandoah Regional Airport and Charlottesville are closer, but more expensive and not as accessible without a ride.

Congrats! (go Dukes! S is a senior). Agree - Dulles (IAD) or Reagan/National (DCA), maybe BWI depending on where she’s flying. There is a weekly bus service (Fri PM) to the Vienna VA Metro station; she can then take metro to DCA or metro + bus to IAD. Or metro to Union Station (Amtrak) and the Arligton & DC stops for the express busses to NY, Phil, etc.

A big % of JMU is from Northern VA (aka “NoVA”). She is liklely to be able to get a ride from someone almost any weekend. My S has played shuttle driver for gas $ several times for his OOS friends.

To get to and from Dulles, there is a bus that runs on Friday afternoons or use Zimrides which is an online carpool board for students! Many go to Vienna where you can catch the metro that will take you to Dulles!

Just to clarify, the Metro doesn’t go directly to Dulles. That segment of the Metro system is currently being built. From Vienna, you can take the Metro to West Falls Church and then connect to the Washington Flyer bus, or you can stay on the Metro to Rosslyn and then connect to the 5A Metrobus. See
