FAFSA tweaked their application layout this year.

It seems that they only certifies certain versions of Internet browsers for users to open up their online applications as of now. So you might not be able to access it with the most up-to-date browsers–very inconvenient in my opinion. I can access the online application on my old computer for some reason but not my new one.

Check their lists of certified browsers and see if your PC system and browser are compatible. You might want to try a computer with FAFSA’s recommended versions of browsers, or try downgrading your Internet browser.

P.S. I just downloaded Safari 3.1 to see if I can access FAFSA with the older version of the browser (rather than Safari 4), and I was able to open the application. You should try it.

It worked for me last night although I didn’t change anything. I couldn’t put too much in, but should initially finish by the third week of Jan. I was told for the CSS, to just send in changes. It makes me wonder, if nothing is final until you finish, grants can change, etc. why they don’t say March 1st as the deadline.

Also got in last night, and it worked just fine. Good idea about downgrading the browser, we actually tried that on Sunday and it didn’t work. They must have fixed the site yesterday…

There was a site maintenance on Sunday. The app was down from 5 to 11 am Eastern Time–I think it’s down every Sunday around this time. So yeah, that might be the reason why people were having trouble then. Hopefully, everyone is able to access it now.

Well, actually, it was down here all day and night on Sunday. By the posts here, it seemed to vary by area of the country. I’m glad they fixed it, but a lot of people must have been frustrated.

I did get mine submitted yesterday before noon! So I am very happy about that! It seemed to get better as the morning progressed! Just glad to get it done for my Freshman Applicant! My Freshman daughter’s is not due until March 15th, always later when they are actually enrolled at a school!

It happened to me last night on our Mac laptop so I went to the Windows desktop. The same message came up and I just ignored it and proceeded with ease. Plus, I got a confirmation.

Forget the list of browsers on the FAFSA website. I have tried downloading all of them, and they don’t work on my newer Mac.

Go to [Google Chrome - Get a fast new browser. For PC, Mac, and Linux](Google Chrome - The Fast & Secure Web Browser Built to be Yours) and download Google’s free browser, called Chrome. Use Chrome to fill out the FAFSA and you will have no trouble at all. I have e-mailed the Dept. of Education suggesting that they add Chrome to their list of supported browsers for Mac users.

Thanks to my Google-savvy son for suggesting this. I was really frustrated and upset trying to find a browser that would work.
