Can't meet may 21st verification deadline D:

Ok, so here is my dilemma. My parents filed an extension for their taxes. I have been harassing my mom to file her taxes so I can get the info verified by the 21st. She's FINALLY going to do them this week but I found out that you can not use the retrieval tool until weeks after filling. I read that you can't just take the print out that you receive after filing from a tax filing office. So I found out plan b, get a IRS transcript. Then I find out that it takes weeks for that too! Even if I personally take my parents to an office it takes a while for the filing info to become available. I really hate having to depend on my parents. I don't even live with them and there's no way I can afford college without aid.

It says on the site that if you verify your fasfa after the 21st, funding is limited. Has anyone had any experiences with getting fasfa after the recommended date?

Have you filed a FAFSA already and been selected for verification?

Yes. I did my fasfa in time with my parent’s estimate and said “will file.” I was approved for full tuition. My tax info is verified and now they just need parent tax info verification for an official award.

Get your mom to file ASAP. Call the school Monday. Explain the situation. Keep in touch with them as you work with your mom to get her info done as quickly as possible. It can only go as quickly as the system will allow it to go, unfortunately … which is why communication with the school is key.

Thanks you your help! I called the school and was able to work something out.

Good - schools are often helpful, but they need to know that you are working to get things done. I am glad you had good results!
