Cant miss college classes?

What are some a the classes that you feel one NEEDS to take in order to grasp the full learning and/or fun experience of college, a class that one would "miss out" by not taking

(ie I've heard model UN is a college must)

I think you would definatly miss out if you didn't take Physcology. I heard it gives you a different view on people.

Did you mean "Phycology," the study of algae?

Er, I don't know of many colleges where model UN is a CLASS.

Psycology is the class that the cast of Animal House got kicked out of school cheating for. It sure helped them.

And if model UN is indeed a class, would they let me be India or Pakistan so I could brag about having the bomb?

I think art history and astronomy are musts.

I think it's highly variable between colleges and specific strengths at your prospective colleges.

For example: I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh a few years back and the most popular class was History of Jazz. Pitt has an excellent Jazz program and its taught (and TAd) by all practicing Jazz musicians wtih PhDs.

There are classes like this at every college campus. It's definately something to ask around about when you get to school in the fall.

Psychology has a lot of interesting applications to your everyday life. I'm very much looking forward to taking Psych 101 in the fall (even though i'm a Comp Sci major).

Note to everyone stating psychology...yes its good to have an introduction to psych...but I personally find sociology more exciting and if you don't like the biology of the brain or biology in general, sociology may be more in your ballpark.

If the school offers it, aviation, though the lab fees are alot

sociology is generally more interesting, but psychology can be an awesome class if you get the right professor. (if you get the wrong one you'll either hate it or think it's absolute crap before you even start learning anything)

Finance...both useful and interesting.

I'd say some philosophy classes are a must.

check out www.ratemyprofessors.com for different schools and it will tell you students' opinions on awesome profs and classes

Some classes to look for, and at least ask about:

Wine Tasting, would require you to be 21, and the "lab" fees are somewhat steep, but everyone I know who has taken a course has loved it (4 different schools). All said that it helped them enjoy other food (and beer) more because it trained them to understand their palate.

History of Jazz or History of Rock and Roll. Might be a history class or a music class depending on the focus, but usually pretty fun.

As for the sociology/psych debate. I was a soc major, and would say that if you are just taking the intro classes, psych is probably more interesting. A lot of the more fascinating sociology things are outside an intro class. If you can get through an intro class see if your college has a class in "social problems" or a sort of broad "application" sort of class in the follow up to the basic intro classes. One of the best sociology courses I ever took looked at topics such as educational inequality, social stratification, poverty, drugs and crime, in a broad sort of sense using the theories that were taught in the 101 class. Of course I got way more theory later on, but it was a good place to start.

I'd also say that everyone needs to try their hand at some of the hard sciences. See if your college has a "concepts" class in those subjects, or "______ for humanities majors/teachers/non-majors"

Apparently people really like glass blowing here.

intro to philosophy, ethics and religion were huge at my school (they filled up within 24hrs of the school opening registration). but that was because of the professor.

(1) Why are HS students posting here? They have no clue.

(2) It really depends on the school. A popular class at one school may be a dud at another.

(3) It depends on the person. I know of people who have had 300-level social psychology classes change their lives. I also know of people who have had 100-level intro arabic classes change their lives.
