Can't take APAH at school-should I self study?

The title is basically the question. Was really interested in taking the course, but turns out they cut it, so....I'm out of luck on that front. Is it possible to self study and get a good score?

I heard a lot of people self-study and do fine on it. I plan on self-studying myself, and will take the test next year.

If you are dedicated and have an interest on the subject, go for it. Just buy a good study book and take a lot of practice tests. And DO NOT procrastinate; start your studying early, so when the exam approaches, you can just review, making you prepared for the exam.

Believe me, it’s not an easy task. I took the test this year, and I self-studied it. It’s a lot of memorization, as Emily stated.

However, it is not a math or science, and it is doable. All you have to do is read, read, and read.

Is there a lot of materials to learn? I am thinking of self-studying some AP courses and I was thinking that APAH would be doable if there isn’t a lot of content to learn and memorize.

it’s a ton of content. to score well on the exam, you need to have an excellent idea of every period of art as well as memorize an extensive amount of work. it can be done, though.

I self-studied AP Art History and got a 5 when I was a sophomore;) Like what wynter said, it’s a ton of contents. But as long as you prepare early and efficiently, you will definitely ace the exam. I posted helpful resources for the AP Art History like study guides and flashcard tips. Come check it out!

Hope it helps you. I will be posting more resources as much as possible:)

For self-studying APAH is there any books reccomended? Right now I have a Barons one.

I am in the same situation as you with my school cutting the class, personally I am self-studying. I recommend doing so if you have some background in art history, if not it will be a lot of material to get in/there are certain things like analyzing art that just take time to learn. Personally I have taken an art history class the past two years (it was a 9 week class that is a part of my major so it was short), but I am going in already knowing at least a third of the material. If you can talk with your schools former art history teacher, it helps a lot.
