My 17-yr-old D is going to CAP 21 this summer for 4 weeks for the pre-college MT program, and we’re starting to explore housing. Anyone else?

Does anybody have any good experience with any Summer housing in New York for 17 year olds? I need housing for the month of July for my 17-year old daughter, and am having a hard time finding something for kids under 18. Would appreciate any suggestions.

I might as well chime in here (there are a couple of other threads, too). My 16-year-old son was just accepted to the 5-week program (6/30-8/2). It seems all of the CAP21-recommended housing suggestions are full or otherwise not available for us.

Since we’re also concerned about supervision & safetly, we’re looking into other things (finding friends nearby, etc.) but would be interested in some group arrangements if others are also looking.

My D did the CAP21 pre-college program five years ago (she just graduated from Tisch!) and we had the same issue with housing. Ended up finding a sublet apartment (very expensive!) but another girl from the program (that we met on this board!) also needed a place to stay so she slept on the futon. It was great the girls could be together to walk to class though they were in the West Village and very safe area. Good luck, I know this is daunting. You could also check vrbo.com or sites like that that sublet apartments to maybe find something for 4-5 weeks.

I am looking for housing for 2 20 yr old girls going to CAP 21 Professional Musical Theater program June 16-July 25 2014. Help?

Check out the Markle Residence a few blocks away from CAP 21. I think it’s full name is the Markle Evangeline Residence for Women. It’s very safe and just 3 or 4 blocks from CAP 21. It’s run by The Salvation Army and it’s like a college dorm. Two meals a day ($5.00 a meal). No men are allowed past the lobby so it’s all girls. They house a lot of foreign students who don 't want the noise and alcohol/partying of a typical college dorm. It’s not cheap ($1,800 - $1,900 a month) but very safe. No housing in NYC is cheap. You can have a single or share a room with a rooomate and there is a common area for the girls to hang out as well as a quiet study/meeting room. Laundry right on premises.
