CAP21 Housing Experiences for 2-Year Program

Anyone current or former CAP21 students have any experiences to relate about finding housing?

If your child is female, the Markle Residence for Women is just a few blocks away from CAP 21. I think it’s full name is Markle Evangeline Residence and it’s run by The Salvation Army. I visited and it’s like a regular college dorm. Two meals a day ($5 a meal). Lot’s of international female students from Norway, Japan, China and South America. No men are allowed above the first floor so it’s very safe. 24 hour security. It’s not cheap (about $1,900 a month) - nothing in NYC is cheap. You could also call the school and see what they suggest.

My son is a current CAP student. He met some other classmates online before school started and they found an apartment together. They used a realtor and paid a fee of one months rent ( split 3 ways in their case). It was way uptown and after a few months he sublet his room and found a place within walking distance to school. No commute made a big difference for him but we do pay a few hundred dollars more per month for the convenience.

BethsMom–CAP21 supplies housing info after the student registers. Do you know of anything similar to the Markle for young men? Thatsmyboy–what might the approx range of nearby housing like your son’s run, and is it hard to find (I mean, “even-for-NY hard to find”. Mine being a son also. Thanks!

I don’t know of any similar options for men. I’ll ask around if I can think of anyone to ask.

brendansdad… I will send you an inbox. I looked and looked and there is nothing like the Markle for boys. There is Educational Housing Service which is dorm style living but it fills up quickly. If he is set on going , see if he can get together with other CAP kids to find an apt together.

Hi, thatsmyboy. What are the pluses of Markle? My student’s in yr 2 in MT at BoCo but plans on taking CAP21’s pro semester in a couple years.
