Hey, so i decided to change majors as of now, since it took my second semester of chemistry to realize that majoring in Bio is not for me... so I'm switching to a major that I actually have an interest in... which is public health. Any successful public health transfers out here? I heard the Public Health major is capped, so what does it mean for transfer applicants like me? I'm kinda lost here since this change is so recent and I don't know where to start... I guess what I'm really asking for is stats and how competitive it is on a transfer level. oh and this is for cal btw.

Stats wise I don't have much...(oh god, this just became a chance me thread)
I got a 3.8 and volunteer at a health clinic but that's about it. And also I didn't even start on the prereqs for public health, so I'm not sure whether I should apply in the fall... I can probably get all my prereqs done by the end or spring of '10.

I need some insight so i can get a little push...

Write an article for the world’s leading journal of scientific studies and then cure AIDS on the side.

Don’t listen to Seph. Curing AIDS will be more than enough.

awww pinkerfloyd, why’d you have to burst my bubble like that.

but anyway, is their approach for reviewing my app any different from the regular uncapped majors? If so, how?

hey edbraga, I’m in the exact predicament as you! My major is currently Public Health. the only 2 UCS with the major are Cal and UCI (Public Health Policy to be exact). It is forsure a capped major @ Cal, but I’m not too sure about UCI. I roughly have a 3.9 and don’t know if I should also apply this November!

Cal would be probably close to impossible to get in for me, so I’m letting that one go. UCI not so much, but with the Public Health major, I’m curious to know if it is harder to get into

Just because a major is capped, doesn’t mean it’s impossible. I am a Media Studies (Mass Comm) major and I got into Cal with a 3.8 GPA. If you do all the pre-reqs and have a competitive GPA, there is no reason why you can’t get in.

At least TRY to get the majority of your pre-reqs done by fall. They don’t even review your app until you do the update in January, so you have a full semester to knock out most of the pre-reqs.

Thanks Kc_sunshine! I gave up on this thread weeks ago because of the ■■■■■-esque comments. But somehow I managed to google and stumble onto my thread again. I really appreciate the feedback. I’m going to apply for the fall. I have this eccentric notion that they’re going to flatout reject me based on the sudden change and lack of prereqs done. And I think it’s because of that, I’ve forgotten about the spring update thing. Thank you!

Oh almost forgot, when in January are you supposed to get it updated? Like in the beginning or late January? I’m going to take a winter class to fulfill a prereq and I think that would really make a difference if that grade is on the update.
