Went to visit S over Labor Day. He said that in some type of Capstone meeting, he understood that next year the Capstone Scholars (year 2) will not be priority housed in the South Quad. That housing is apparently going to Honors and Capstone Year 2 will be housed in "some apartments on campus" - S could not remember the name of them. Anyone else have any info on this?
By the way - S loves USC and is really happy so far. His whole floor in Capstone is engineering majors except for 1 or 2 people. What a great study group!

We were excited when we heard last year about the priority housing at South Quad for Capstone year two as well.

D was initially excited about South Quad for this year and had chosen to stay there, got her room assignment etc. Due to a need by her sorority to fill a few rooms in the house she requested and was granted permission to cancel her room contract at South Quad right before final exams.

Several of her best friends (who would have been her roommates) are still in South Quad, but others including her roommate last year (PAMom's D) have moved off campus as well. She told me last week that she was "sooo glad" that she wasn't living in South Quad because it wasn't as nice as she had been led to believe.....she wasn't quite so nice in her real comment....LOL!

My point is that from what I have been told, far more people choose to live off campus after freshman year than on campus. There's plenty of time between now and the time to re-up for campus housing to get a clearer picture of the pros and cons of both. With a bigger than anticipated freshman class, and rising interest in the school, USC is going to have a housing crunch for anyone other than freshman until they get the new Honors dorm built and it is running behind schedule.

I read in a local publication that about 60% of the full time undergraduate students now live off campus. That sounds high to me.
Daughter is a freshmen living in Capstone. I will check to see if she heard anything about next year. I am glad she doesn't have a car because it seems like a hassle to find a parking space even with a USC parking decal. I don't like the idea of her having to walk from the parking garage to dorm either late at night.
