Car @ UT

@DenuMz: No pinkberry’s in TX :(

As for on campus yogurt we have several options. There is one right next on 24th and guadalupe called Swirll. There’s one on 29th and Guad called The Yogurt Spot. There’s one on 24th and San Antonio (in the same shopping center as Starbucks and Quizno’s), but I don’t know the name of it.

I don’t actually have a car to bring, but if I did then I would. It has its uses. My roommate and some of my other friends are bringing their, so I’m covered.

Freshman year none of us had cars, and it really sucked. Somebody needs to have one, at least one of your friends.

Vach, Dallas has three. Theres a yummilicious in Austin here:

The Village
2700 W. Anderson Ln • Suite 227
Austin, TX 78757

Don’t have a clue where that is. Oh and I think I know the one your talking about by Quiznos and Starbucks. Saw it on my way to that garage thats right next to it.

Thanks wtk.

omg since when is there a pinkberry in dallas? I’ve been living under a rock! just googled…OHHHHH it’s in DALLAS dallas. no wonder i didn’t know.

The yummilicious that you’ve listed is too far from campus to walk/bike. You’ll need a car or a long bus ride. :/

Bring a car and give me a ride :(. I’m still debating but I think i’ll go without one the first semester so I can get use to the area and be more familiar with parking/prices/safety/UT bus system.

Apparently they have quite a few frozen yogurt places near UT. Sno beach and juicytart got the best reviews

nvm sno beach has snow cones not yogurt but what is the best place to park if you are staying in dobie?

DenuMz, I am not bringing a car. Neither am I planning to buy one. I am a huge environmentalist

I drive an F-350, if I bring my little brother to college with me would I be allowed to leave him in the truck in front of the building with the engine running while I go to class so it can be nice and cool and ready to go when I get out?

Are you serious???..

^ Lol. Well if your living at Dobie, Dobie’s garage is right across the street. They charge more, but you don’t have to move out of the garage during game days and they have a security guard always on duty.

@xtra, thats a great commitment but I hope you are aware of how insignificant your car pollution would be compared to the billions of drivers on the road. But I guess someone has to take the lead. The only way to stop the pollution from cars is when a company introduces a vehicle that doesn’t consume gas/pollute and can do the things a sports car can. Government will also have to step in and do a discounted trade. It would resemble something like the “cash for clunkers” deals.

Btw, I decided to bring my car. Brother went to UT and advised me to take it. He’s pretty greedy with money and he even said it was worth it.

How much does dobie garage cost?

I ride the buses. Why can’t the government spend more on better bus systems?

@xtra, amen to that. i mean austin has a good bus system for texas but pales in comparison to the rest of the world.

Vachee, yes, I agree. Austin’s bus system can get to any major shopping center, but the schedule is not that frequent. It takes me at least one hour to do any kind of shopping with the bus.

Buses are socialism anyway.

(sarcasm)

I would like to disagree.

Are you familiar with car2go? You might want to check into that if time is your issue with buses.

Dobie costs $1050. Lol you could never get the demand in Dallas and Houston to even touch a bus. The buses couldn’t even cover the grid because of cost and profit restraints. We have a dart system in Dallas that everyone in Dallas has to pay a 1% tax ingrained in the sales tax. Never used it in my life because its no where near where I live and it would never be. Don’t get me wrong, it does help a lot of the people in the city and those who are car-less, but you can only have so many buses, so many stops, and so many people who can deal with the inconvenience. People love their cars too much and theres a freedom associated with it. Go wherever I want, do whatever I want, whenever I want. No time constraints, no waiting, take my groceries/business merchandise/bags of money in my car rather than carry it on a bus. Jam to my CDs, go as fast as I want.

^ I live in Plano and I totally agree. The DART system here is virtually useless. It is only good to transport you to and from the DART rail stations, which are only good for going into the very center of downtown and back. I don’t even understand how it’s useful. You can buy a really cheap car and save yourself hours of wasted time every week.

Now, with the buses being FREE to UT students in Austin, that’s a little different. Sometimes I find some of them to be useful, like the 1L/1M or the 7 taking me from campus to downtown during the day. Very useful to get to events down there. And of course the E-Bus aka drunk people Th/Fri/Sat bus. That is one I am grateful for.
