So the common app asks you to indicate a career interest, and a lot of other colleges want you to choose at least one major or academic interest... CU Boulder even asks you to pick a major and doesn't give the option of Undecided. I have a lot of "academic interests" but no clue as of now what I want to major in. Should I choose "undecided" or just pick one so it doesn't look like I have no interest in anything? I am interested in everything from chemistry, physics, journalism, history, philosophy, Spanish, international relations... and I really don't prefer one over the other at this point. What should I do?

Bump

If the school has an undecided option, choose that (although you said CU Boulder doesn’t?). You also want to consider how easy it would be to change majors at the school; you don’t want to choose a major you thought sounded interesting in high school and end up trapped in a college you don’t want to be in (ie: choosing Chemistry and having difficulty transferring out of the science college to study Spanish).

Thanks for the advice @brennz. You don’t think it looks too boring/ indecisive to the colleges?

No, most colleges know 18 year olds usually don’t know exactly what they want to do for the rest of their life. That’s the whole point of the American higher education system.

No, a lot of people do that. In one college info session I went to (I forget the school now), the admissions officer said that the most popular major of applying students was undecided.

Cool. That makes me feel much better! Thanks @brennz and @Woandering
