Career choice in my major

Hello there,

I’m a Criminal Justice major (with a minor in biology) and I’m not completely sure what career I want to pursue after I graduate (Sophomore this upcoming fall). I want to try and become a criminal/forensics lab technician but I learned you have to have major in some sort science degree. The thing is I’m not that great at math (Weird thing is I got pretty bad grades in high school, but now that I’m in college I’m getting A’s and B’s in my math classes). And I know math is a BIG requirement with science majors (minors not so much). I love being a criminal justice major as I love reading about crime and laws. I also enjoy biology learning about how the body works and such. Any other career suggestions out there that anyone would recommend?

“I love reading about crime and laws. I also enjoy biology learning about how the body works and such.” If you can stay in school for it, consider studying law after your criminal justice degree. Otherwise, police and prison jobs are obvious ideas.

I was a chemist/lab tech for many years in environmental analysis laboratories. The outer purpose of the work was not thought about much, and I suspect it is the same in forensics labs. What you focus on in laboratory work is the operation and care of machines and the dutiful following of established procedures in operating them and preparing samples. If you get a chance to, work in a laboratory and find out whether you like it before committing your mind and studies to that track.
