aka- FAU’s curriculum for biomedical sciences does not award an undergraduate degree.
You may want to major in something else for pre med.

“it’s hard…” is all I’m hearing.
obviously it’s going to be hard.
but, if you want something, you have to work for it.
clearly, you didn’t work hard enough if you didn’t achieve your goal.

Clearly, you are a ■■■■■ or a tad naive (and if you are the latter I say it with love and no malice intended). The american dream of “I can be anything I want if I put my mind to it” doesn’t exist to the extent that we would like to believe. Hard work can only take you so far, and it CAN take you pretty far. However, I can’t be an astronaut or a jockey or a NBA player. I’m not built or equipped for it. The fact of the matter is that some pre-meds aren’t equipped to get into medical school and some medical students aren’t equipped to compete for a derm position. Even great candidates can get thrown to the wayside simply due to scarcity of spots and fluctuations in competition.

^Yep. So, take baby steps and keep in mind that even with superior stats, there are people in front of you with connections, URM, and those who saved humanity from AIDS and malaria. So, what you do to be fourth in line? Here are your intermidiate goals: get perfect college GPA and MCAT over 35 and tons of medically related EC’s as well as others in your personal area of interest. After these are accomplished, you can see where to apply to get to Derm…and make sure to do very good on Boards at Med. School.

Can someone explain why dermatology is usually looked down upon/made fun of? I see it quite a bit on the SDN forums too.

I showed a friend (who was interested in specializing in dermatology ;)) various photos of skin diseases, lesions, growths and the like.

…Let’s just say she doesn’t like having guacamole in her burritos anymore.
