My D is about 95% sure she is going to Wash U, over Penn, UCLA, NU and a few others. My H is concerned about career placement/job opportunities out of Wash U compared to the others. How is on campus recruiting? Coming from CA, Wash U doesn't have a big name here, and he's worried about spending all the money with little reward. D and I think more of the experience and education value, but agree that there needs to be income at the end of the road.

Any thoughts or experiences from current or past students? Thanks!

wash u is a fabulous school. your daughter will be successful. what's more, she is not going to graduate from any undergrad school and hop into the top position at any prestigious law firm/corporation/medical practice. kids from washu get jobs. my sis is currently working at DA's office (won't say where) and her colleagues are from Ivy, state, LAC, and everything else you can think of.

i tend to PM bc threads always degenerate into people arguing about rankings

i understand that on the west washu may be a little less of a name... but it really carries a lot of weight. i think "lesser" names carry more weight than people think and the "big" names carry less than people would like to tell themselves. today successful companies are not staffed fully by ivies like they might have been a generation ago (granted neither of my rents went to a big name school are both are veryyy successful). i think it's ironic that most adults i know did not go to big name schools, are very successful, and are obsessed with name value for their children...
