Well I'm interested in both mechanical engineering and engineering physics. Are there any further academic fields or career options that combine such interests/fields?
thanks.

The closest area to both disciplines is probably materials engineering.

Dont double major. In the end it wont really improve your chances. Go with one and take classes that interest you in the other.

any ideas?

I agree with @marchballer, don’t do a double major if it takes you longer to graduate. It is rarely ever worth the time.

If you are not sure what interests you most, start out in General Engineering and then choose after you learn more about the two programs. The first year courses for Engineering Physics and Mechanical Engineering are pretty much identical.
