Career services at Williams College?

How is the career service at Williams college? What sets it apart? In your opinion, whose career service is better, Williams’ or CMC’s?

Welcome to College Confidential, @Irenene !

I do not know the answer to your question, but I will bump this post up so maybe someone who does can answer it, and bring it to the attention of parents of recent graduates or students currently in upper grades at Williams: @momrath , @ivegraduatedmom , @schoolview , in case someone can answer it.

Career services at Williams are supported by a loyal recruiting base of investment banks, consulting firms and tech companies. Alums also actively seek out and recruit graduates. The head of recruiting is very proactive and makes sure to have freshman start thinking about career paths early. Career staff take their role seriously and help find internships and job opportunities in the US and globally. This enhanced by work study opportunities and research jobs on campus. It is probably one of the schools best assets.

Williams has an excellent track record for job placement on Wall Street and at the consulting firms in New York and Boston. My son was in the arts, not finance. His experience with the (newly named) Center For Career Exploration was very good. He had two summer internships at art museums, both of which worked in concert with the career center to recruit Williams students. After graduation a listing at the career center led him to a job at an architecture firm which had targetted Williams graduates. Ten years and a graduate degree later he’s still working at the same firm, along with several other Williams alumni/ae.

In which year did your son do internship? Junior year?

I will be delighted to share this with my daughter who was accepted (ED candidate) by Williams and is part of Class of 2023.

If your kids are in the arts, there is a great network both through the career center and directly through professors. Our daughter has gotten great summer internships through her classroom profs’ outreach and recommendations. I can’t speak to other departments in this regard, but I assume they are similar. Make sure your students develop relationships with their professors. They can be life-changing.

Congratulations!!! ED admission is a huge accomplishment. Be on the look out for previews, agree that getting to know your profs can lead to great job opportunities as recruiters may reach out to faculty. You can even meet the Career Center staff during previews, they are super helpful. Take time to enjoy your senior year and explore with the comfort of knowing there are many paths to success through Williams.
